Pandeglang, Banten (ANTARA News) - The government will start building an airport in south Banten in 2012, Pandeglang district head Erwan Kurtubi said.

"According to information, in 2012 the Transportation Ministry, along with the Banten provincial government will start building the airport," he said here on Wednesday.

He said the Pandeglang district administration fully supported the construction of the airport in Panimbang subdistrict because it would accelerate the economic growth of local people.

The district administration had prepared 600 hectares of land for the construction of the airport, he said.

The plan to build the airport also had received support from the Pandelang district legislative council which said it would have a positive impact on the development of the region in the future.

"We fully support the plan because it will have a positive impact on the local economy which will in turn improve the local people`s living standard," local legislator Dadan Sudarma said.

He also supported the local government`s decision to keep the location for the airport secret to prevent land brokers from capitalizing on the situation to enrich themselves.

The local government has designated three areas as as would-be location for the airport. However, none of them has been made public.

"We don`t want to see only land brokers buying land from the local people in the would-be locations for the airport. Therefore, the three would-be locations for the airport has until now kept secret," he said.
