Kabul (ANTARA News/AKI-OANA) - At least 18 Afghans died when the minivan they were travelling in hit a roadside bomb in the southern Helmand province, according to police, last week.

All the victims were civilians, including numerous children and women.

"The reports that I`ve received from the scene indicate that all 18 people in the vehicle have been killed," deputy police chief Kamaluddin Shirzai told the AFP news agency.

"We have been able to identify the bodies of one woman and three men so far," he said.

Between January and June 1,462 civilian were killed in Afghanistan representing a 15 percent from same period last year, according a report by the UN. (*)
