Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - A 12-year jail sentence was handed down to one of the men who robbed CIMB Niaga Bank in Medan last year by the Medan district court on Tuesday.

The court had found Marwan alias Wak Geng guilty of committing a robbery along with his friends at CIMB Niaga in Medan, North Sumatra, on August 18, 2010 leaving one police officer dead and wounding two bank security guards.

The sentence was two years lighter than the prosecutor`s demand. Chief judge Erwin M Malau said when reading the verdict among the incriminating factors for the sentence was that the defendant`s act had caused death and trauma among the bank employees.

In favor of him is that the defendant had been polite and not make difficulties during the trial sessions.

In response to the verdict Marwan said "I accept the verdict."(*)
