Sentani, Papua (ANTARA News) - An Australian employee of PT. Freeport Indonesia in Tembagapura, Mimika regency, Papua province, Davis Wayne was buried in a landslide on Tuesday at 3 am local time.

Papua police spokesman Senior Commissioner Wahyono said in Jayapura that the accident was caused by incessant heavy rains in Papua since last night and caused a landslide at Mile 73 of the mining site when a number of night shifters were on duty.

"The landslide also destroyed a Ford pick up driven by Davis Wayne who fell into a 150 meters deep ravine," he said.

The victim, he added, was found in the Kabur River not far from the accident site.

He added that the landslide had blocked the access road in the big mining site.

He said a rescue team is still in the accident site for evacuation of the dead victim.

He said the landslide was triggered by heavy rain in the area since Monday night.

The rescue team is still identifying the victim, and were still looking for possible other victims.(*)
