Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on Richter scale rocked region at 83 km southwest of Padang Sidempuan, North Sumatra at 3:02 am, Thursday.

According to the official website of the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics, the quake did not have a potential to trigger a tsunami.

The quake epicenter is located at coordinates 0.93 northern latitude - 98.67 eastern longitudes with a depth of 29 km.

The quake was also reported to felt at Central Tapanuli, based on the Facebook social networking user reports Hendro Purba Alpirin "The quake felt at Central Tapanuli," in his comments reply on information obtained from the official www.bmkg.go.id facebook account.

Shortly afterwards, another facebook user Novi Zebua, who is possibly writing from Nias also reported that the quake also felt in where she is located at the time.

"The quake felt in Nias... it was pretty rocking ...." Novi wrote.

No aftershock was reported after the incident. (A050)
