Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The general chairman of the Prosperous Peace Party (PDS), Denny Tewu, has asked the government and security authorities to investigate vandalism of a church and a school in Sumatra recently.

"The vandalism and torching of a church in Logas, Riau province, on Wednesday (Aug 3) and Thursday`s reports of a forced disclosure of a school belonging to a Christian foundation in Batam, Riau Islands province must be investigated thoroughly and the perpetrators dealt with," he said here on Friday.

If security apparatus could no longer deal with and settle violence done under the name of a religion like these cases "who the citizens have to complaint to," he said.

"We do not seek reprisals. What is important is security at school and house of prayer areas and rehabilitation of the house of prayer that has been vandalized," he said.

As has been reported by several national newspapers a school belong to Pioneer Foundation in Batam has been forced to close leaving school children and teachers locked out of the complex on Thursday upon a reason that it has been managed by a group from a different religion.

On Wednesday a Methodist church in Logas, Riau, was vandalized and burned with no clear reasons.

Denny Tewu hoped that the authorities would act firmly against the perpetrators and assure security in the field.

"People must not be let to live unpeacefully in their own country," he said.

Denny also hoped that the incidents in Riau and Batam could be localized and prevented from spreading to other regions.
