Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa gave the assurance on Wednesday that Indonesian citizens living in London and other British cities were safe as rioting and looting entered its third day in London on Tuesday.

"Thank God until now we have not received any report that our citizens are in difficulties," Marty said in the Presidential Palace compounds here.

Therefore, the government was still undecided about evacuating Indonesian citizens from London and other British cities to safer areas, he said.

The minister said the Indonesian embassy in London had issued a circular calling on Indonesian nationals to keep vigilance, avoid rioting sites and hold constant contact with the Indonesian embassy.

"Of course, we are concerned about latest developments in Britain. The local authorities can hopefully restore the situation soon," he said.

The rioting broke out on Saturday (Aug 6) in protest against the shooting of a man.

In addition to London, there were also reports of violence and unrest in Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool.

The police had made 87 arrests in West Midlands alone.

In response to the rioting, the Indonesian embassy in London asked the Indonesian nationals to keep vigilance and avoid a crowd of people.
