Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - North Sumatra police has searched the house of Yunus Rasyid, uncle of former Democratic Party general treasurer Nazaruddin, main corruption suspect of the construction of an athlete`s village.

After breaking the fast with North Sumatra administration officials in Medan on Friday night, Police Chief Inspector General Wisjnu Amat Sastro said the search was carried out because the house at Jalan Garu I in Medan was reported as the place where the passport used by Nazaruddin was missing.

The information was obtained from the investigation of Syarifuddin, whose name is on the passport used by Nazaruddin.

"A police team went to Yunus Rasyid`s house to check on his identity card (TKP) where Syarifuddin`s passport was missing as he told the police," he said.

The police chief said his men have also went to Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara (UISU) where Syarifuddin worked.

At the private university, the police wished to know about the permit of Yayasan UISU and the reason of Syarifuddin for his frequent long overseas trips.

"Was his going away for so long with the permission of the foundation (yayasan)," he wondered.

He added that while Syarifuddin is still of witness status and which has already been removed, his investigation still continued.

And he did not rule out the possibility of Syarifuddin and Yunus Rasyid as Nazaruddin`s uncle, to become dragged in the case.

Previously, Muhammad Nazaruddin was arrested in Cartagena, a coastal resort in Columbia on Sunday at 2 am local time.

Before his arrest in Cartagena, Nazaruddin had visited several countries including Singapore, Vietnam and Combodia and boarded a charter plane straight to Bogota via Madrid, Spain, then to Dominica.

When caught, Nazaruddin with his wife and several other people, used a false identity using the name Syarifuddin.

Then North Sumatra police caught Syarifuddin at his home at Jalan Alfalah on Tuesday afternoon for questioning on the passport used by Nazaruddin.

But in the police in its investigation Syarifuddin said the passport used by Nazaruddin was missing at the house of his uncle Yunus Rasyid at Jalan Garu I, Medan.

Since no criminal act was found on Syarifuddin, the police has released the Medan citizen on Wednesday (Aug 10) afternoon. (NG/S012)
