Depok, West Java (ANTARA News) - Former Vice President M Jusuf Kalla has expressed hope that the law enforcing agencies will also pay attention to other corruption cases beside that involving politician M Nazaruddin.

"The police must pay the same attention to other corruption cases such as the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) case. The corrupters have caused huge financial and material losses to the country. They must be held responsible for their actions," Kalla said here on Monday.

About the corruption case involving former Democrat Party treasurer Nazaruddin which had captured intense public attention during the past few weeks, Kalla said the case must be solved transparently by the judicial authorities without intervention from any party.

He was optimistic that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would be able to solve the corruption case that had put President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s party in an unfavorable public spotlight recently.

Asked about his comment on the exchange of letters between President Yudhoyono and Nazaruddin after the latter`s arrest recently, Kalla said people, including Nazaruddin, had the right to ask for the president`s attention.

"I think it`s a proper thing," said the former vice president.

Nazaruddin was caught in Cartagena, Colombia on August 7 after being on the run for more than two months. He fled to Singapore on May 23 or a day before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) applied for a travel ban for him in connection with his alleged involvement in a corruption case.

From his hideouts overseas, Nazaruddin made sensational statements accusing some Democrat Party members of being implicated in his case.

After being questioned by the KPK recently Nazaruddin confessed to the media he was guilty and ready to be penalized severely without trial in exchange for the safety of his wife and children.

He made the same statement in a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who later replied that he would never intervene in Naxaruddin`s case and asking the latter just to submit to the legal process to settle his case and reveal everything he knew.

As for the safety of Nazaruddin`s wife and children, President Yudhoyono said in his letter that every citizen`s safety is always assured but this did not mean that a person involved in a criminal case would be protected.
