Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government launched an air conditioned economic-class train Gajah Wong at the Jakarta Kota railway station on Wednesday.

"The operation of the new train will support our efforts to provide better services to the public, particularly during the Idul Fitri festivities this year," Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi said when launching the train.

He said the operation of air conditioned economic class train which serves Jakarta-Yogyakarta route was part of the service standard set by the Directorate General of Railway Affairs at the Transportation Ministry in 2010.

"For the first time ever in September last year the government handed an air conditioned economic class train called Bogowonto to the state railway company PT KA to serve Pasar Senen Railway Station to Kutoarjo Railway Station," he said.

The Gajah Wong train was procured using the 2010/2011 state budget. The train was named after a river in Yogyakarta province.
