"With 2 helicopters and 300 ambulances, PMI is ready to take on its humanitarian tasks during Lebaran holiday mass exodus," PMI General Chairman Jusuf Kalla said at Monas Square here on Thursday.
Kalla said the Indonesian Red Cross did the thing in the previous years, and because the presence of PMI in the field is of great importance, it will do the same during Lebaran mass exodus this year.
He said the frequent road accidents during the holiday exodus every year had made the role of PMI getting more important in giving its humanitarian assistance to the victims.
Therefore, Kalla added that the reliability PMI volunteers and the availability of helicopters and ambulances as well as medical personnel and supplies were much needed.
"Maintaining the safety and security of Lebaran holiday travelers is a challenge but noble task, and that we are ready to give our best assistance and services to the people who are in need," the PMI chairman noted.
Meanwhile, PMI Headquarters board of health and blood donor center spokesman Farid Husain said the two helicopter ambulances service would be operating along toll roads.
Farid said the two helicopters would monitor and serve the victims of accidents along the Jakarta-Merak, Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Ciawi, and Jakarta-Cilenyi toll roads.
According to him, the helicopters would transport the victims to Eltaham hospital in Karawang and Gatot Subroto hospital in Jakarta.
