Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (NP2TKI) said the number of TKIs going home to their native villages in Indonesia to celebrate the Idul Fitri this year will reach 80,000 - 100,000, a manpower official said.

Head of BNP2TKI Moh Jumhur Hidayat said in Jakarta Friday that their remittance amounted to Rp800 billion,

He said on other occasions, the number of TKIs going home each month reached 40,000, and their number may double for the Lebaran festivities.

Jumhur said the BNP2TKI has nine TKI arrival registration centers at the different TKI debarkation locations including those in Nunukan (E Kalimantan), Tanjungpinang (Riau Islands), Entikong (West Kalimantan), TKI Home Comming Data Center (GPK) in Selapajang (Tangerang, Banten), Adi Soemarmo airport (Solo, C Java), Husein Sastranegara airport (Bandung, W Java), Adi Sutjipto airport(Yogyakarta), Juanda airport (Surabaya, E Java), and Selaparang airport (Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara).

In the meantime, head of the Research and Information Center of BNP2TKI Benyamin Suprayogo added that the TKIs brought or send money to their families and relatives with a total of Rp800 billion.

"Some sent they money through banks, or bring it themselves and entrust it to others before they go home," he said.

BNP2TKI has previously noted that the remittance from the TKIs abroad up to the first semestere of June, 2011, amounted to 3.340.908.140.22 billion US dollars of the Rp28.5 trillion (exchange rate of 1 US dollar = Rp8,500).

Protection Deputy Head of BNP2TKI Lisna Y Poeloengan said the total of remittances reached Rp28,521,332,793,058.10 according to Bank Indonesia through bank transactions.

"The true total is obviously more, some TKIs sent the money by way of intermediaries, including those entrusted with fellow TKIs and individual couriers," Lisna said.

She estimated the total of remittances of TKIs each year to Indonesia had reached Rp100 trillion. (*)
