Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of Idul Fitri travelers using trains at Senen Railway Station here on Saturday (D-Day minus 3) was estimated at 13,000, a railway firm official said.

"It is estimated that the peak of Idul Fitri travelers at Senen Railway station occur today," PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Spokesman Sugeng Priyono said here on Saturday.

He said that based on report the number of passengers transported by trains through the Senen railway stations on Friday reached 11,216 travelers.

"Today, the number will increase to about 13,000 people," he said.

He said that on Thursday or on the D-Day minus five, the number of train passengers at Senen was recorded at 10,683 and on D-Day minus six and minus seven respectively recorded at 7,565 and 6,772 travelers.

In the meantime, PT Kereta Api Indonesia also is preparing 28 additional trains to cater Idul Fitri travelers during the post-fasting month of Lebaran festivities.

"PT KAI has prepared 28 trains in anticipation of the surge in the flow and reverse flow of Idul Fitri travelers," Sugeng Priyono said here on Saturday.

He said that most of the 28 additional trains would transport passengers to Central Java, while the remaining ones to East Java.

Sugeng said that KAI was increasing the number of its trains to be operated during Lebaran festivities in answers to the rising demand of travelers.

"Seeing the increasing demand from passengers, we are providing 28 additional trains," he said.

He said that this year KAI would maximally carry 150 percent economy class passengers to keep comfortableness for passengers.

"If a coach has a capacity of 100 seats, only 150 passengers would be allowed get on it so that the carriage would not become too packed," he added.
