Tirana (ANTARA News/AFP) - A judge was killed Friday in a car blast in the Albanian port Vlora, some 150 kilometers (90 miles) south of the capital Tirana, police said in a statement.

Skardilaj Konomi, 33, was killed by an explosive device, placed under his car parked in the center of the town, the statement said.

The national union of judges and prosecutors said they considered the attack "a mafia crime aimed at intimidating representatives of the law."

Albanian President Bamir Topi condemned the attack and urged police "to find the perpetrators of this serious crime as soon as possible."

Albanian police put up a 100,000-euro ($136,000) award for information on the attack. (*)
