Jakarta (ANTARA News) - ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan received the credentials of the Turkish and Egyptian ambassador here earlier this week.

According to an ASEAN Secretariat press release received here Wednesday, the two ambassadors expressed their cooperation potential to the South East Asian nation community association.

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to ASEAN Murat Adali, on 12 September 2011, expressed his honour and pleasure in being accredited as the Ambassador of Turkey to ASEAN.

Adali underlined the potential for cooperation and development between ASEAN and Turkey.

In the course of exchanging views and ideas, the ambassador expressed his confidence that the two sides could work together to promote cooperation for mutual benefit.

Later on in following week, the ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to ASEAN Ahmed Alkwesny expressed his gratitude to ASEAN for approving his accreditation and committed himself to work closer with the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) and the ASEAN Secretariat to explore concrete cooperation between Egypt and ASEAN.

Ambassador Alkwesny also suggested some areas of cooperation with ASEAN including scholar exchange, media exchange to raise the awareness of both Africa in ASEAN as well as ASEAN in Africa.

Alkwesny also informed the ASEAN secretary general that Egypt can help play the role of bridging relations both economically and politically between ASEAN and Africa.
