Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono has expressed optimism that Japan`s economy will recover from the impacts of the tsunami and Fukuafima nuclear reactor leak, the vice president`s spokesman Yopie Hidayat said here Thursday.

"Despite the recent tsunami and global economic crisis, the vice president is sure Japan will be able to overcome its problems," Yopie told reporters after a meeting between Japan`s Economic, Trade and Industrial Affairs Minister Yukio Edano and Boediono at the vice presidential palace.

Yopie said the vice president was also confident that Japan would survive amid the problems so that there was no reason for Indonesia not to enhance relations with Japan.

He further said Edano`s visit to Boediono was aimed at strengthening the two countries` economic relations besides introducing himself as a new minister.

"Japan considers Indonesia as the most important country in Southeast Asia, and thus gives priority to enhancing relations with Indonesia," he said, adding that the two countries would focus their cooperation on energy and natural resources as well as development of Japan`s investment in Indonesia.

According to Yopie, the vice president also said that in their economic relations, Indonesia and Japan had managed to develop bilateral cooperation as they were complementary to each other as Japan did not have as many natural resources as Indonesia.

The vice president, he said, invited Japanese investors who are more active in investing their capital in Indonesia as the latter has huge domestic market besides export potentials to other Asian countries.

"The vice president said Japanese companies would enjoy results as Indonesia has huge domestic market and this could be a strong basis for production and export to other Asian countries," he said.(*)
