The government`s support for the Palestine`s initiative efforts should also be shown during the UN sessions.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Muhammadiyah appreciates the government`s efforts to mobilize international support for Palestine`s bid to become a full UN member, the organization`s chief said.

"I appreciate the Indonesian government for having stated it will mobilize the support of Non-Aligned Movement member countries," Din Syamsuddin, chairman of one of the country`s biggest Islamic organization, said here on Friday.

He said the government`s support for the Palestine`s initiative efforts should also be shown during the UN sessions.

Din said Palestine`s bid to get full UN membership deserved all nations` support. "It is only proper for nations and states to support Palestine`s wish to become a full member of the UN," he said.

Regarding the US threat to veto the bid, Din said "Obama must prove his words in Cairo that he wishes improve the US ties with the Islamic world."

He said if Obama could not prove his words, it meant his promise was only hollow words. "Do not just promise," he said.

Indonesia has continuously helped Palestine to get full UN membership and would monitor closely developments around the bid in the days to come, Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday.

"Our spirit is using all the opportunities available to ensure that the Palestinian efforts for full UN membership if indeed it is what the Palestinians wish will get support from the international community," he said.

Marty made the statement after meeting with his counterpart from Kazakhstan, Yerzhen Kazykhanov, on the sidelines of 66th UN General Assembly meetings.

He said Indonesia continued lobbying various countries at various levels to support Palestine.

"We have made efforts not only at a national but also multilateral levels through the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement," he said.

In the meeting with the foreign minister of Kazakhstan which is the present chair of OIC at a foreign ministerial level meeting Marty said "we have also told the OIC which has always sympathized with Palestine to show its relevance in the Palestinian membership process at the UN." (*)
