Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission III (judicial affairs) on Thursday completed its task of examining 18 supreme justice candidates to fill 10 vacancies in the Supreme Court (MA).

After conducting fit-and-proper tests on the 18 candidates from September 20 to 28, the House commission picked six of them to fill as many openings in the Supreme Court. The Judicial Commission (YK) which had recruited candidates from among the public had forwarded the names of only 18 people although it had been requested to submit 30.

The House Commission III had picked the six successful candidates through votes among its members in which Suhadi, a clerk at the Supreme Court, won the highest number of votes.

Gayus Lumbuun, an outspoken legislator, gained the second highest number of votes while the four other successful candidates were Nurul Elmyah, a lecturer at the University of Indonesia`s Faculty of Law, Andi Samsan, deputy chief judge at the Samarinda High Court, Dudu Guswara, ad hoc judge at the Corruption Court, and Harry Djatmiko, a judge at the State Fiscal Administrative Court.

Under the Law on the Supreme Court, the country can have a maximum of 60 supreme justices but in reality it now has only 50 supreme justices. (*)
