Jakarta (ANTARA News) - ASEAN finance ministers will gather in Jakarta on November 8 for the 8th ASEAN Finance Ministers Investor Seminar (AFMIS), the Finance Ministry said.

Indonesia will host the seminar as it is the current chair of ASEAN, the ministry said in a press statement on Wednesday.

ASEAN is aware of the important role played by the private sector and will always make an effort to pursue financial and trade integration, the statement said.

AFMIS is one of international activities to promote ASEAN as an attractive investment destination, it said.

The seminar themed "Growth and Resiliency - the ASEAN Story" will among others focus on investment opportunities, financial market and ASEAN`s economic advantage compared to other developing regions.

The Finance Ministry noted that the 1997-1999 crisis has served as a valuable lesson for ASEAN member states to apply prudential fiscal and monetary policies amidst strong capital inflows. However, a sudden reversal of the hot money can adversely affect the economies of ASEAN member states.

Hence, the large capital inflows must always be controlled and treated effectively so as not to endanger the economic and financial stability of the region, it said.

Participants of the seminar are expected to come from investors in the real sector, portfolio investors, chambers of commerce and industry, embassies and ASEAN delegations.

The event`s organizing committee is planning to invite World Bank Managing Director Sri Mulyani Indrawati to speak of ASEAN`s attractiveness compared with other regions during the seminar`s luncheon. (*)
