Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government signed a power project in Central Java which is one of the largest projects in the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) here on Thursday.

"This is a success story, a breakthrough, a history of success in the cooperation between the government and private parties that will encourage future public-private cooperation," Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said at the signing of the 2x100 MW PLTU project worth Rp30 trillion at his office.

Hatta said the project is an important project and also a big project that has passed a long but credible and transparent process.

"Therefore this process that we have carried out must not stop as it has been planned well and so must also finish according to plans," he said.

He said the PLTU project is the first large-scale public-private project with an investment of no less than Rp30 trillion.

"The project is guaranteed by the government based on a guarantee scheme jointly provided the government and PT Penjamin Infrastructure Indonesia," he said.

He said the success also showed that if the process of public-private cooperation (KPS) project procurement was done in line with the principles that have made before a better, more reliable and more efficient infrastructure could be obtained to give a better impact on the state especially the national budget.

Going forward, Hatta said, the government would encourage the KPS-supporting institutions such as PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) and PT Penjamin Infrastruktur Indonesia (PII) to support and lead the process of KPS project procurement so that other KPS projects could be carried out in other sectors.

He said the provision of government guarantee through PT PII for the PLTU project in Central Java is a progressive step with regard to infrastructure development in Indonesia because there is a new guarantee scheme which is more transparent and accountable as one of the government`s fiscal policies.

On the occasion several other documents have also been signed including a purchase agreement between state-owned electricity company PT PLN and private electricity developer PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI).

Others include a guarantee agreement between the finance minister and PT PII as a guarantor with PT BPI, a regres agreement (recourse agreement) between the finance minister and PT PLN, a regres agreement between PT PII and PT PLN and a sponsor agreement for development projects between J-Power, Itochu and Adaro.(*)
