Held at the theater room of the Youth and Sports Ministry building, some 217 youths across are taking part in the event.
In his opening address, Malarangeng said the national festival of documentary films and fictions this year was very good for the development of the young people and their creativity.
"Today`s young people really have extraordinary creativity, and many of the participants are still very young. Never in my generation did young people really thought of creating films," Malarangeng said.
According to him, demands of today`s young people are different because with present-day technological progress, young people are able to develop their creativity in various fields.
The youth and sports minister was of the opinion that the film festival was part Indonesia`s creative industry.
He said film making might have something to do with hobbies, but if they were worked out seriously they would be the basis of the creative industry.
"Many countries including Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam were enthusiastic about Indonesian film industry," Malarangeng said.
Therefore, the minister said the task of his ministry was to prepare and facilitate the country`s younger generation to develop their creativity in order to compete globally.
He said that besides the film festival, his party also conducted a workshop on cinematography for young people so that they could develop their film creativity. (*)
