Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A legislator has urged Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan to take anticipatory steps in preventing the floods of Chinese goods into Indonesia as an impact of the debt crisis in Europe.

Ecky Awal Mucharam of the House Commission VI on trade said that the debt crisis that befell Greece could spread to other European states.

"If this happens, China is likely to divert its export market from Europe which absorbed some 20 percent of China`s exports," he said here on Friday.

He said that uncertainties in the European market caused concern in Indonesia that China would flood Indonesia with its exports.

"The dynamism which is taking place in Europe should be come the attention of us all, particularly the trade minister," Ecky said.

He said that the debt crisis in Europe was also feared to spread and disturb the economic recovery in the United States which received the biggest portion or 18 percent of China`s exports.

"If this happens, China will become aggressive in seeking markets and we will be attacked by Chinese goods from two points, namely in our export destinations and in the market home," he said. (*)
