Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu has welcomed the filming of "I, Alex Cross" in Bali because it will help promote the country`s tourism.

"The choosing of Indonesia as a shooting location is a chance to promote the tourism destination. For sure, it gives an opportunity to the film industry, in this chase the creative industry in Indonesia, to participate in the making of this film," Minister Mari Pangestu said in short text message text on Sunday (Oct 24).

The minister flanked by the tourism and creative economic ministry`s Film Affairs Director Syamsul Lussa visited the shooting location of "I, Alex Cross" being directed by Rob Cohen, on Pantai Timur isle, Karangasem, Bali.

When the film is released in mid 2012, it will help strengthen the standing or image of Indonesia internationally, she said.

And as a consequence, it will help attract foreign tourists to Indonesia.

Rob Cohen was preiously known as the producer of a number of bow office films such as "The Fast & Furious", "xXx", "The Mummy", and "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor".

Cohen, a temporary resident of Bali, is very much interested in Bali and therefore he had decided to shoot his film at Karangasem.

The film`s crew members include Photography Director Ricardo Della Rossa ("House of Sand" and "Adrift"), and Executive Producer Ethan Smith ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid").

The crew also consists of 35 locals and 20 production supporting personnel.

The film stars Tyler Perry, Jean Reno ("Ronin", "Leon: The Professional", "The Da Vinci Code", "Pink Panther", and "Hotel Rwanda"), Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols, and Jessalyn Wanlim.

The filming of "I, Alex Cross" is being facilitated by the Bali Film Center and Syzygy Productions.
