Kendari, South east Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Deputy Agriculture Minister Rusman Heriawan said South East Sulawesi had the potential to become a cattle production center.

"As a province which is expected to become a cow production center, South East Sulawesi should be able to maintain the continuation of its cattle population," Rusman said after officiating the operation of the South East Sulawesi branch office of the Central Board of Statistics (BPS) here on Sunday.

Rusman Heriawan who was named deputy minister of agriculture recently is still chairman of the BPS.

He said that in its capacity as a production center, South East Sulawesi should be able to provide cattle for its neighboring provinces.

The deputy minister said the central government provided incentives for small breeders who only had two or three cows.

"We know that it is only a small number of breeders who own a large scale ranch. Breeders only have some five cows," he said.(*)
