Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Muslims should benefit from the momentum of Idul Adha (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) this year to arouse the spirit of sacrifice for the sake of peace and friendship in Maluku province, an academic said.

"Muslims must always arouse the spirit of sacrifice particularly to create a real peace and harmonious life in Ambon (in particular) and Maluku (in general)," the assistant to the rector of Ambon State Islamic Studies, Hasbullah Toisutta said in his Idul Adha sermon at the Alfatah mosque here.

Sacrifice for peace and brotherhood could be made by not spreading provocative rumors through short message service texts or illegal brochures that might disrupt the life of religious adherents in Maluku province, he said.

He said Muslims were required to have the guts to sacrifice their individual and group interests to create social care for the benefit of the people at large.

The observance of Idul Adha trained Muslims to have social sensitiveness and to be ready to make a sacrifice for those who were in dire need of help, he said.

It also trained masses to control animal appetite including greed, oppression, jealousy, arbitrariness, and tyranny. (*)
