Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - Land acquisition problem still hampering the extension of Fatmawati airport`s runway in Bengkulu, airport spokesman Syamsul Bandri said here on Monday.

"To date, the extension of the runway has yet to be implemented because it is hampered by land acquisition," Syamsul said, adding that the runway extension should have started this year.

But he added that Bengkulu city administration and the team of nine which has been formed had yet to pay the land compensation, although the land acquisition funds amounting Rp4.6 billion had been allocated from 2011 regional budget.

Although the funds have been allocated, Syamsul said the runway extension project had not started because the Bengkulu city government and the team of nine had not reached an agreement about the amount of the land compensation.

Therefore he expressed hope that the local government and the team of nine would immediately reach an agreement so that the extension of Fatmawati airport`s runway could be realized as soon as possible.

Meanwhle, members of Regional Legislative Assembly (DPRD) Heri Alfian and Sis Rahman said based on a hearing among the DPRD, Bengkulu city government, and local National Board of Land Affairs (BPN) recently, the land acquisition process was not completed.

"Therefore we have asked the city government and the related parties to immediately complete the land acquisition so that the project can start as soon as possible," said Alfian and Sis Rahman.
