"PAN cadres in various regions have asked for Hatta Rajasa`s nomination as presidential candidate for the 2014 election," the secretary of the party`s advisory board, Azwar Abubakar, said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Awakening Party (PAN) plans to discuss the nomination of chief minister Hatta Rajasa as the party`s presidential candidate for the election in 2014.

"PAN cadres in various regions have asked for Hatta Rajasa`s nomination as presidential candidate for the 2014 election," the secretary of the party`s advisory board, Azwar Abubakar, said here on Tuesday.

He said PAN planned to hold a national meeting on December 10-11 which would be attended by the party`s central, regional and district board members.

Also to come to the meeting are legislative party members from the House of Representatives and regional and district legislative assemblies.

Azwar said Hatta was a figure who had capacity, capability and experience in state administration affairs.

"I have known him for a long time. He is a polite figure who is shy to express his opinions. But cadres in various regions have asked that he be nominated," he said.

He said Hatta had given a lot of ideas for the solution of national problems and therefore he had received awards from international agencies several times.

Azwar believed with his capacity and capability Hatta could continue President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s present leadership.

"The aspiration of the PAN cadres will be discussed at the meeting and, if every body agrees, Hatta will be named PAN`s candidate," he said.

Hatta was elected PAN general chairman two years ago. He said cadres had no longer any doubt about nominating him as a presidential candidate but he was still too young at the time.

"At the national meeting later we will ask Hatta`s willingness to be chosen as a presidential candidate," he said.

In PAN, Hatta was the most appropriate figure to be nominated as a presidential candidate in 2014.

PAN`s founder Amien Rais also encouraged Hatta`s nomination as a presidential candidate in 2014. PAN is one of the biggest ten political parties in the country. (*)
