Kidapawan City, Philippines (ANTARA News/PNA-0ANA) - The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the political party of the communist guerillas, has declared suspension of their tactical offensives in north and central Mindanao region, especially in areas severely hit by typhoon Sendong, a top rebel spokesperson in Mindanao said.

Ka Norsen Mangubat, spokesperson for the CPP in North and Central Mindanao Region (NCMR), said all their guerilla units in the region were ordered to suspend tactical offensives in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan and provinces of Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental, the areas ravaged by floods.

The suspension, which started last Wednesday, would end on January 3, Mangubat said in a statement.

In particular, he explained, the NPA is to hold operations against military detachments and police stations, including outposts and camps.

The rebels, however, would remain vigilant against enemy attacks, despite President Aquino?s truce declaration.

The suspension, Mangubat said, does not include their operations against criminals, including murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and thieves. (H-AK)
