Caca Setia, a resident of Jalan Gotong Royong in Sukabumi's Gunungpuyuh urban ward, was instantly killed when his body collided with the train's diesel locomotive at Nyomplong in Warudoyong subdistrict, police said.
"According to eye witnesses, Caca, wearing a white T-shirt, black jacket and brown trousers, deliberately threw himself at the approaching Bumi Geulis diesel train and died instantly with a grave injury to his head," Adjunct Commissioner Suharto, Warungdoyong police precinct ch+ief, said.
He said the police were temporarily considering the incident a suicide but would conduct a further investigation to determine the real cause of the incident. If it really was a suicide, the police needed to know what had caused Caca to want to kill himself.
Meanwhile, Budi Mulyana, head of Sukabumi`s railway station, said the train`s driver had seen a man on the railway track and sounded the train`s horn to warn him. But the man ignored the warning and even walked toward the train that was moving at a speed of about 60 km per hour.
"Our train driver duly gave a warning and even shouted at the man to leave the track but he ignored it all," Budi said. The train could also not be stopped by its brakes to prevent a collision because there was too little separating distance between the train and where Caca was. (HAJM)
