Langkat, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Some 600 families were affected by a flood reaching a height of up to one meter that inundated Batang Serangan sub district, Langkat District, North Sumatra, Tuesday.

"The flood waters submerged many houses after the Batang Serangan River overflowed," Syaifullah, an official of the Batang Serangan administration, said here on Tuesday.

The flood waters began to rise at 7 am local time following incessant heavy rains since the night before.

Langkat Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mardiyono said he had instructed his men to help the flood victims. He visited three villages affected by the floods in Batang Serangan sub district.
