Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government hopes all parties in Aceh province will restrain themselves and make joint peace-keeping efforts so that public facility vandalizing acts such as had happened recently will not recur, a minister said.

Speaking to the press at the presidential palace here Tuesday, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said the recent violence in Aceh such as the shooting incidents committed by unknown persons had drawn the attention and aroused the serious concern of the government, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in particular.

"The president has expressed deep concern about the lawless actions, and hopes such cases will not recur. We don`t want the peace process and peaceful situation that have prevailed in Aceh for the last five years be disturbed by irresponsible persons. The national police are now trying to identify and find the perpetrators of the violence," the minister said.

Djoko said, "despite the shootings committed by unknown people in Aceh, the security situation in the western-most province in genera; had remained stable. The police and military (TNI) are jointly maintaining a peaceful situation for the people."

Shooting incidents which reportedly happened close to the end of December 2011 and on new year`s eve , left five people dead namely in Banda Aceh, Bireuen and North Aceh and caused eight people to sustain injuries.

About the assumption that the shooting incidents followed by the destruction of an electrical tower were linked to the upcoming regional simultaneous elections in the province, Djoko said his office, the home affairs ministry, the general election commission and the general election supervisory commission were continuously monitoring developments in the situation in Aceh.

Djoko said all components of the community in Aceh should be able to control the situation in Aceh prior to the general elections in a bid to avoid disturbances in the community in the public interest.
