Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Some 52 people had been killed in road traffic accidents in Jayapura in 2011.

Jayapura police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Alfred Papare said here Wednesday besides the fatalities, 23 sustained heavy and 20 injuries.

The traffic accidents had caused Rp 462,100,000 in material loss.

The traffic accidents included the issuance of 3,838 traffic tickets, 100 motorists reprimanded sympathetically, and Rp 1,136,205,000,- in fines.

The number of traffic cases was lower compared to the 96 cases in 2010 with 54 deaths, 16 heavily and 28 lightly injured, and caused Rp 47,400,000 in material loss.

In 2010 there had been 3,774 cases in which traffic tickets had been issued, 115 cases with sympathetic reprimands, and a total fine of Rp 401,785,000.(E006)
