Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa hoped that the vehicular queues at Merak Port and floods that had cut traffic on the Tangerang toll road would not disturb goods distribution.

"It should not disturb goods distribution. We should make every effort so that the goods flow will not be constrained," the minister said here on Tuesday.

The minister made the remarks in connection with the long queues of trucks and other vehicles at Merak port as well as the floods at the Tengarang section of the roll road that connected Merak with Jakarta.

Hatta said that relevant ministries should overcome the problem of disturbance to goods distribution for a long period would raise prices and boost inflation.

"I am seriously calling on (the relevant ministries) to assure that the main lanes of goods distribution would be protected and the flow of logistics should not be disturbed," the coordinating minister for economic affairs said.

He said that main lanes should be freed from disturbance so that jams and floods would not recur.

"In short, the toll road should not be cut off because it is the main lane. Although there is an alternative way, yet the toll road is the main lane," the minister said.

On Sunday, the Tangerang-Merak toll road got totally stuck following the overflowing of Ciujung river.

"Road traffic on the Jakarta-Merak toll road had been totally disrupted and stuck since 6 am," spokesman of PT Marga Mandala Sakti (MMS) Hari Wirakusumah said on Sunday.
