Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Kampar District Chief Burhanudin Husin as a suspect in a corruption case related to the appropriation of income from a forestry program in Pelawan district, Riau province.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said , Burhanuddin was detained after KPK investigators had finished questioning him at 16.30 on Tuesday. He was suspected of having committed corrupt acts when he was head of Riau province`s forestry office in the period 2005-2006.

It was believed Burhanuddin misused his authority and a permit to utilize the proceeds from a horticultural forest causing a financial loss estimated at Rp 470 billion to the state.

He had actually been named a suspect since 2008 together with three other men but it was only on Tuesday that KPK investigators deemed it necessary to put him behind bars. (*)
