Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - India imported different goods worth more than US$70 million from West Sumatra in 2011, making it the biggest importer of goods from the province last year.

"Bangladesh came in second with more than US$16.6 million," Head of the West Sumatra Provincial Statistics Office Muchsin Ayub said here on Tuesday.

The United States was the third biggest buyer of the province`s commodities with US$43.6 million. This was followed by Pakistan US$11.886 million, the Netherlands US$11.886 million and China US$9.4 million.

The exports to Bangladesh jumped to US$51.9 million in 2011 from US$12.5 million in 2010, he said.

Exports to the United States and China last year rose 315.05 percent and 103.12 percent respectively compared to the year before.

Yet the United States played the biggest role in contributing to the province`s overall exports last year with 29.62 percent. India came in second with 29.47 percent. (*)
