Batam, Riau Island (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has set a deadline to build 14 fast missile boats by 2014, Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said on Thursday.

"The boats will be used to support the Navy to guard Indonesian waters," the minister said.

He said the construction of these boats was part of a government plan to strengthen domestic defence industry and boost the National Military`s weaponry system.

Indonesian Military Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono said the military needs at least 44 fast missile boats to secure Indonesian waters by 2024.
