Sumenep, East Java (ANTARA News) - A whirlwind which raged Dusun Kota, Sapeken village, Sapeken sub-district, Sapeken Island, Sumenep regency, East Java, in the small hours of Saturday, damaged at least 20 houses.

Sapeken sub-district chief Sunaryo said his men are still in the field to count the damaged buildings hit by the whirlwind.

"Some of our men reported that 20 houses in the area had been damaged by the whirlwind, but the number may always be more," he said by phone.

The whirlwind struck on Saturday at about 3 am local time.

"Temporary data show that the strong wind only raged Dusun Kota, Sapeken village," he said.

Sunaryo also said temporary reports that he had received said practically nobody was hurt in the natural mishap.

"We had already informally reported by phone what had happened in our area to the relevant authorities of the Sumenep regency administration," he said.

Sumenep has 27 sub-districts, including nine in Sapeken island.

In normal conditions, travel at sea from Kalianget in Sumenep to Sapeken by ship or boat takes about 12 hours.
