Defence Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Hartind Asrin said on Monday that the technology transfer process has become the main requirement in every major equipment purchase of foreign weapons systems, including missiles from China.
"Besides that we are also exploring cooperation in missile production," he said.
The technology transfer process series for C-705 missiles production was highlighted during a visit by Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro to the China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation (CPMEIC), which will be building the C-705 missiles.
The move also aims to boost Indonesian Navy technology transfer process.
Earlier, both the countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technical defence cooperation.
It was signed by the Deputy Defence Minister Sjafrie Syamsudin and chief of the Technology Development Agency and the National Defence Industry of China, Chen Qiufa.
The MoU covers five main points, namely the procurement of certain weapons systems agreed by both parties in terms of "G to G".
Second, the transfer of military equipment technology that included assembling, testing, maintenance, modification, upgrade and training.
Three other points are the military equipment product cooperation, specific military equipment joint development and joint marketing inside and outside of the respective countries.
While in China, the defence minister also met his Chinese counterpart and was planning to meet Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
Yusgiantoro also plans to review the Chinese rockets and missiles company, (Aerospace Long March International Trade & Co. Ltd), during the visit.
