"We will carry them out but the implementation will not be routine, it will be impromptu," Command Spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command will carry out urine tests to anticipate possible narcotic drug users among its members, Command Spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said here on Wednesday.

"We will carry them out but the implementation will not be routine, it will be impromptu," he said.

He said the command would not announce the implementation of the tests but officers from the command would conduct impromptu visits to police units to carry out the tests.

The move is being made following the arrest of three police officers from the command for allegedly using narcotic drugs.

The command recently arrested the chief of the police sector in Cibarusah, Bekasi, Adjunct Commissioner Heru Budhi Sutrisno, for allegedly using methamphetamine.

The police have also arrested First Inspector R, a former officer of the Child and Women Protection Unit of the South Jakarta resort command, after her urine tests for the use of ecstasy pills were positive.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Sahala Simbolon from the Administration Planning of the General Crime Investigation Directorate has been arrested after allegedly dealing in narcotic drugs in Kampung Ambon, West Jakarta. (*)
