Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has opened a Consulate General in Shanghai, PRC (People`s Republic of China), as a follow-up to a meeting of the Foreign Affairs ministers from both countries on April 19, 2011.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Shanghai was opened on March 15, 2012, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry`s Director of Information and Media, PLE Priatna, in a press release here on Friday.

"The opening of the Consulate General in Shanghai is a follow- up to the meeting of Foreign Affairs ministers and the RRT on April 19, 2011 and the agreement between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on April 29, 2011," noted the Indonesian Ambassador to PRC, Imron Cotan, as quoted by Priatna.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Indonesian ambassador to PRC, Imron Cotan, who was accompanied by a representative of the Deputy Director General at the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government, Fu Jihong.

Also in attendance, were several other Consul General representatives and members of the Indonesian community in Shangai, comprising people from the Indonesian state-owned enterprises in Shanghai, businesspersons, students and others.

"The opening of the Indonesian Consulate General is a milestone that marks the progress of other bilateral relations between the two countries, and is expected to strengthen, expand and contribute significantly to the achievement of the targets of these relations," Cotan remarked.

The Consulate General in Shanghai is expected to immediately facilitate the needs of citizens and legal entities in the state accreditation Indonesia, he added.

The accreditation area for the Indonesian Consulate General in Shanghai includes the city of Shanghai, and Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province.

"Currently, technical and administrative preparations are under way for the Indonesian Consulate General in Shanghai that can be operational immediately," Priatna said.
