Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have shot dead two suspected terrorists at Pondok Aren in the southwestern outskirts of Jakarta.

"True, we have shot dead two terrorist suspects and arrested two others," Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Insp Gen Untung S Rajab confirmed on Friday night.

The two slain terrorist suspects were identified by their initials as D and ES.

Untung said two other suspected terrorists were undergoing intensive questioning to establish the motive behind their acts and the name of their terrorist cell.

Investigators believe the suspects were members of a terrorist cell after they found evidence of terror acts, he said.

Untung also said the investigators believed the suspects were members of a robbery gang involved in the torture of Brigadier Jaka and Brigadier Erry Sasongko of the Setu police precinct in Bekasi, West Java.

Jaka and Erry were tortured after discovering that the suspects planned to act at Kampung Jati in Bekasi on Sunday (March 26), he said.

He added that the robbery gang also opened fire on police officers, though their shots missed the target.

A report claimed police officers shot dead D and ES after they resisted arrest while exchanging fire with police during a raid at their rented house in Pondok Aren early Friday (March 29).

During the raid, police also seized a revolver, axe, aluminum powder used to make explosives, a guide to rob banks, and a box belonging to owner of the rented house.(*)
