Furthermore, Sharif said the smuggling of anchovy by using Indonesian-flagged fishing vessels named KM (Motor Boat) Nadin which brought of 13.04 tons and KM without a name loaded 12.72 tons of anchovy, a mode of fish smuggling approach which has done by the players, following the policy of MMAF to tighten the import of fish, particularly for many species of fish found in the waters of Indonesia. This policy was made to protect the welfare of local fishermen of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance, Syahrin Abdurrahman, said the mode of fish smuggling was very adverse to local fishermen and also can cause detriment to the country. "We will act firmly and investigate to the bitter end ."said Syahrin.
Currently, both ships and smuggled anchovy has been secured by Fisheries Inspector of Directorate General Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance together with the Officer of of Agency of Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety in Kuala Tungkai, to further legal process. One fishing vessel was also secured, named KM. IKBAL which suspected involved in the smuggling process.
The arrangement for fish import that has been running refers to the Minister Regulation of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries No. 15/2011 on Fish Quality Control and Safety which Enter to The Republic of Indonesia Region that issued on June 15 2011 and Decision of Director General of Fisheries Product Marketing and Processing No. 231/2011 on Arrangement Imported Fish Species on July 4, 2011. According to him, both regulations arrange for several certain fish species and designation, particularly for industrial raw materials of pindang fish for people of small-scale micro bussiness (UMK), the import of fish will be allowed with strict requirements.
The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries currently will restrict the import, as well as arrange a strict regulation for the import of fish and restrict the gateway of fishery products from overseas to Indonesian region. Currently, the gateways which allowed by government to fishery products are Belawan Port in Medan, Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang, Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, and Soekarno Hatta Port in Makasar. In addition to these five sea gateways, another gateway is Pos Lintas Batas Entikong as well as all international airports in Indoensia.
