Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Thomas and Uber Cup team manager Mochammad Feriansyah said he was optimistic the Thomas Cup team would proceed to the quarter final round despite having to meet China`s in the preliminary round.

Based on the results of a toss-up at Wuhan Sports Gymnasium Center Sunday morning the Indonesian Thomas Cup men`s badminton team is put in Group A together with teams from host China and Britain.

The country`s Uber Cup women`s team meanwhile is put in Group A along with teams from China and South Africa.

"Both teams would meet China but we are quite optimistic we could reach the quarter finals," he said.

Twelve teams would participate in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup badminton group championships and they are divided into four groups for the qualification round. The best two teams from each group would be eligible for participating in the quarter finals.

"I saw there is a big opportunity without necessarily undermining Britain. With regard to China we must have a strategy. Winning against Britain meanwhile is a must," the world`s 12th ranked player, Taufik Hidayat, said.

The ninth-ranked player, Simon Santoso, shared his view saying the Thomas Cup team he believed could beat Britain. "However we must not be off-guard. What is important is preparations must be done better," he said.

The final rounds of the Thomas and Uber Cup badminton group championship are scheduled in Wuhan, China, on May 2027.

For the quarter finals a toss-up would again be done to determine rivals with each group champion to be the seeded team.
