Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered Chief Security Minister Djoko Suyanto and National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo to recover public sense of security following recent violent incidents in the capital.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said at the presidential palace here on Tuesday President Yudhoyonon followed media reports lately on a number of violent cases by gang of motorists in the streets.

"The President is very concerned over public security. Some incidents have been out of proportion. The president has asked the coordinating minister for security, political and law affairs to coordinate with the national police chief to tackle problems that have disrupted public security," he said.

Julian said President Yudhoyono also said if any military (TNI) or police member involved in the incidents the case must be handled according to procedures.

"What is important is recovering public sense of security. That is the order from the President to the coordinating minister for political, security and law affairs and the national police chief," he said.

The chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Lt. Gen. Marciano Norman, meanwhile said BIN is still investigating the men behind the motorist gang.

"We are still investigating them no matter where they are from," he said.

He said BIN is also studying the possibility of relationship between gangs from various regions.

"What I am trying to find is whether there is a link between one gang in one region with another in other region whose goal is only to create disruptions everywhere," he said.

He suspected there were criminals being involved in the motorist communities.

"I think seeing what they have done as you see on television recently some criminals might have been involved in it," he said.

In view of that he called on motorist groups to be aware of the possiblity of their intrusion. He also called on motorist communities to return to their initial goal of `fun ride`, `joy ride` or charity activities which are better," he said.(*)
