"The evacuation effort will continue tomorrow morning, due to bad weather in the crash site area," the National Search And Rescue Agency Chief Daryatmo said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The evacuation of the bodies of the crashed Sukhoi Superjet 100 passengers has been put off until Saturday because of bad weather conditions, according to the National Search And Rescue Agency Chief Daryatmo.

"The evacuation effort will continue tomorrow morning, due to bad weather in the crash site area," he said in a press conference at the Halim Perdanakusumah airbase in Jakarta on Friday.

Daryatmo added the rescue team was still on the site to continue to search for more bodies.

Earlier, the agency announced the rescue team had evacuated 12 bodies found amid the wreckage on the Mount Salak cliff.

The 12 bodies were scheduled to be airlifted to Jakarta immediately after they were found, but the operation was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.

Currently, the bodies have been placed at the nearest evacuation post in Cijeruk village, Bogor, West Java, from where they will be flown to Jakarta on Saturday (May 12).

"The land rescue team has found 12 lifeless bodies, but we are still unable to identify them," Daryatmo said.

The condition of the passengers' bodies is also not clear yet.

The joint rescue team comprises members of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Indonesian Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Police, and Mobile Brigade.(*)
