"Much before the event starts, the electricity problems will be sorted out."
Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA News) - The organisers of Sail Morotai have ensured that the supply of electricity to the island of Morotai in North Maluku for the Sail Morotai event in September 2012 will not be disrupted.

"We will ensure that all problems relating to the supply of electricity for Sail Morotai will be taken care of prior to the international marine event. The national electricity company, PT PLN, has been fixing the problems of electricity supplies for Morotai," Sail Morotai local chairman Muhajir Albaar said in Ternate on Monday.

PT PLN has also started operating solar panels (the largest in Indonesia, with a capacity of 650 kilowatts) in Daruba, the capital of Morotai district.

Muhajir said PT PLN would also supply generators to several places connected with the event, such as Daruba airport, Daruba Harbour, and the Morotai Island Regency office.

"Therefore, people do not have to worry about electricity supply or the lack of diesel power in Morotai for Sail Morotai. Much before the event starts, the electricity problems will be sorted out," he added.

On the development of infrastructure in Morotai Island to support the international event, Muhajir, who is also the secretary for the North Maluku province, said all facilities would be ready before September.

Some of the infrastructural development activities under way are the construction of the spectators area at Daruba Airport, the development of roads in the city of Daruba, and several other facilities for visitors.

Muhajir stated the central government had allocated a total of Rp500 million for the event, through several ministries, while the North Maluku province had also provided Rp100 million to support the sailing event.
