Dili (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended the inauguration of Jose Maria Vasconcelos or Taur Matan Ruak, as the new president of Timor Leste in Tasitolu here on Saturday night through early Sunday.

He attended the ceremony along with First Lady Any Yudhoyono and also representatives from other countries.

Tasitolu is an area located on the bank of a lake which used to be for horse racing.

The inauguration ceremony began at 24.00 hours or prior to Timor Leste`s Independence Day on May 20.

Taur Matan Ruak, the former commander of FFDT (Falintil Forsa de Defensa de Timor Leste, replaces Ramos Horta, following his election victory.

The inauguration event is made like a people`s party marked by entertainment shows held not far away from the inauguration venue.

Around 1,000 people came to the event mostly on foot from across the town to enjoy music performance which is indeed a rare event in the city.

On Sunday morning President Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the 10th anniversary of Timor Leste`s independence restoration at the Nicolau Lobato presidential palace.(*)
