Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The police in Riau province have confiscated a kilogramme of dried, ready-to-use marijuana from the house of a suspect, identified by his initials as DW, at Jalan Pahlawan in Pekanbaru.

"The case was uncovered following a report from the community regarding the suspect`s suspicious behaviour," Riau Police Command spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Syarif Pandiangan told newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said the police raided and searched the house from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and the illegal material found would now be used as evidence.

DW has also been arrested for further questioning at the command headquarters.

Syarif said the police would continue developing the investigation and the suspect had confessed to getting, or buying, the marijuana from another suspect.

"Further investigation into the case will be carried out by the command`s crime investigation, division while other suspects in the case will be chased," he added.

The director of law enforcement and investigation of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Benny Mamoto, has predicted that cases of narcotics distribution in the province, as well as in other provinces, will be increasing due to a variety of factors.

In view of that, he expressed hope that all responsible authorities united in their efforts to fight the problem.

"The anti-narcotics fight could be done through counselling the younger generation against using drugs," Benny said during a recent visit to the region.(*)
