Solo, C Java (ANTARA News) - Over the past decade, the Indonesian police have captured 800 terrorists in the country, according to the Counter Terrorism Agency`s director of prevention, Brigadier General ESA Permadi.

In 2011 alone, 93 terrorists were arrested and eight of them were shot dead, he said at a seminar on the National Awakening Day and terrorism at the University of Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS) here on Friday.

The police had confiscated 23 rifles, including 12 units of AR-15/M-15 and one Remington long rifle, and 24 shotguns.

The 800 terrorists belonged to 10 groups, including Jemaah Islamiah (led by ABB), Darul Islam/NII and Abu Bakar battalion, and Laskar Jundullah.

Permadi said the terrorists wanted to establish an Islamic state. Other things that motivated them to take up arms were sociopolitical factors, injustices, and religious intolerance.
