Magelang (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, along with some 1,000 hashers, enjoyed the rural scenery of Borobudur area while joining the Borobudur International Hash House Harriers (Interhash) 2012, here on Saturday.

During the event, they walked 4.2 kilometers, which started and finished at Tuksongo square, Tuksongo village.

The President was flanked by Bibit Waluyo Governor, Tourist and Creative Economy Minister Marie Elka Pangestu, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, and Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono.

The group started walking at 8 a.m. local time and covered a route that included rice fields and kampongs through the rural area of Borobudur Temple.

Local villagers greeted the presidential group and waved their hands.

Some 4,500 hashers from 50 countries took part in the activity from May 24-26, 2012 as they sought to boost tourism in Central Java.

Minister Pangestu said earlier that the Borobudur International Hash (InterHash) 2012 was expected to promote Central Java as a tourist destination.

"The event, hopefully, can help promote tourism in Central Java, in particular, and Indonesia, in general. We are highlighting several tourist attractions, such as the Prambanan and Borobudur temples and surrounding areas, in addition to Bali," the minister said here on Friday.
